To reach this high point, you can start at the small Meadow Creek Reservoir
hidden about ten miles up County Road 129, just east of Tabernash. (Road 129
starts on the far east side of the Hwy 34 overpass over the railroad tracks, about
2½ miles north of Fraser). When you get to Meadow Creek Reservoir, continue
all of the way on the forest road to the Juno Trailhead. From there, you have an easy
3 hour hike (at most) to the pristine Columbine Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area
About a mile before Columbine Lake, you can take the more demanding Caribou Trail
that climbs for over a mile to the high tundra of Caribou Pass. If weather permits
(and you can manage the altitude), then with only a little more elevation gain you can
stroll over to the Continental Divide and see Lake Dorothy perched at 12,061'
(3677 meters). Imagine, a lake in the sky, over 2¼ miles high!
