We saw all sorts of elfin trees as we approached timberline. We made the ascent
early in the morning with all of Lake Granby and the lower valley hidden under a
blanket of clouds from the previous night's rain. A few hills had their tops poking out
of the clouds to give the landscape an enchanted appearance. Meadow Creek Reservoir
is shown above to the left. The flagged tree is a reminder that often one can encounter
hurricane strength winds up here. If you get an early morning start, you'll miss the wind,
heat and potential lightning.
