We are going to walk up to the pass and then follow the old mining road that you can see cutting across
the mountain. In the olden days, quartz and mica outcroppings seemed to be a good place to prospect
for gold. In the huge rock slides that you'll see in the photos to the east, it was hoped that nature had
already done the hard work of breaking up the rock and one had to simply look in the right places
to find where the heavier ores had naturally settled.
