Entering the virgin forests of Columbine Creek. Click on photo
to jump far up the trail to a natural clearing in the forest. Much of
this trail is blocked by fallen trees or covered by diverted streams.
The first 2 miles are on the south side of Columbine Creek. Animals
use the trail and probably established it, so it is not impossible to
follow. When you come to one of its many folds and cross a minor
stream, you may find many trees blown over and the trail gone.
Follow what would logically be its contour. There is an especially
hidden area where the trail crosses Columbine Creek. Aim to the NE,
especially eastward. If you miss the trail, you might consider climbing
a little higher (on the southfacing slope) and then zagging back down
to the creek, always aiming upstream. You'll find the path.
