Click on photo for a closer view. We saw other herds on the trek,
some of them quite large with 200 to 300 members. They formed distant
Himalayan views with the sheep moving like grains of salt up fantastic
reaches of tundra. They seemed to be well adapted. They would thrive
at lower levels of tundra, but those are heavily grazed by yaks. There is
also another taurus-like creature, the rare Takin that visits timberline.
It is the national animal of Bhutan. More on its strange existence later.
