800 year old Indian firepits and stone cutting tools have been unearthed here.
Much older, 8000 year old "wattle & daub" has been unearthed nearby.

There is evidence that the Windy Gap area was inhabited year round between
6000-4000 years ago. The last ice age ended about 10,000 years ago with Grand
County having one of the southern most sheets. One theory is that the broad valleys
near here became a mecca for large mammals. The landscaped is pinched at
the Windy Gap area. From here, Indians could have kept watch over the large
herds and coordinated their hunting.
"Invention" of the wheel dates back to Mesopatamia almost 6000 years ago.
Here in Middle Park, sleds were derigueur even a hundred years ago. Today,
snowmobile sleds are immensely popular ...
