The Windy Gap area has been the focus of several archaeological digs.
Powerful telescopes and bird recordings complement this handsome display
at the Windy Gap reservoir, one mile west of Granby at the confluence
of the Fraser River and the North Fork of the Colorado River. Very little
water is stored here. During the peak runoff seasons of June and July water is
pumped through a huge underground pipe to Lake Granby! The Willow Creek
reservoir is used to perform a similar feat of hydro-engineering. Water from
Lake Granby is then pumped up to Grand Lake and rushes at 400 cubic feet
per second through an long tunnel under the Continental Divide! Hydoelectricity
is generated as the water makes it long journey to the Great Plains of the USA.
