A couple of minutes upstream from here is a bridge! Cross it and continue
straight uphill perpendicular to the contours. Click on the photo to see the
grassy knoll you'll reach. Click here to see the stream later in the summer.
The Grand Ditch carries water from huge snowfields in the
Never Summer Mountains. A narrow service road follows the
aqueduct and makes a very pleasant and easy hiking path. From here
one can trace the water around Red Mountain ahead and continue "upstream"
around Baker Mountain. One could then descend the Baker Gulch trail.
You'll enjoy views of the pristine source of the Colorado River and might
see some historic structures from the original builders of this amazing
aqueduct.
