Columbine Creek entering Grand Bay. Click on photo to continue up
the creek along a very hidden and abandoned trail. From here you have
the choice of walking back. If you missed seeing wildlife on the way in,
there is still much to see on the way out. Osprey, Eagles, Deer, Elk ...
and maybe ... a mountain lion. There is an official Continental Divide Trail
that runs from Mexico to Alaska. The first and last pictures of this hike are
on the Continental Divide Trail. It has special CD signs. The Continental
Divide Trail runs along the True High Divide from Berthoud Pass (south
of Winter Park) to Devil's Thumb Pass east of Tabernash and Fraser.
The CD trail does not traverse the rugged Indian Peaks. It instead descends
down to Monarch Lake east of Lake Granby and then follows the shoreline
of Lake Granby to HERE. It then continues northward, upriver, and then
along the east shore of Shadow Mountain Lake. It then goes directly
through the town of Grand Lake. This makes Grand Lake the only town
that is directly on the official Continental Divide Trail.
